Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Support Services, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Transportation sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.17%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which rose 4.07% or 27.60 points to trade at 706.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) added 2.28% or 48.00 points to end at 2,152.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 1.96% or 11.80 points to 613.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which fell 20.06% or 95.40 points to trade at 380.10 at the close. Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR) declined 2.10% or 70.00 points to end at 3,272.00 and Howden Joinery Group Plc (LON:HWDN) was down 1.83% or 17.50 points to 938.50.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1095 to 663 and 713 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) fell to 3-years lows; falling 20.06% or 95.40 to 380.10.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 1.50 to $2,544.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.21% or 1.45 to hit $67.20 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 1.21 to trade at $70.40 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 101.66.
